Juliana Jewelry Reference - DeLizza & Elster, Identification & Value Guide by Ann Pitman

In the last 2 months have brought 3 books for identifying vintage costume jewellery and for reference.Today's blog is on the absolutely fabulous book released last month from Ann Pitman.
Juliana Jewelry Reference Delizza & Elster, Identification & value guide.

DeLizza & Elster (D & E) named vintage jewellery is not as well known here in the UK as the US - only by the enlightened few. But with the family business manufacturing from 1947 to 1990. Some of the jewellery will have made its way to the UK. Unfortunately the company used a paper name tag only and did not sign the back of any of their jewellery. The tag of course was taken off and discarded to wear. But many pieces can be identified and this book will help.

D & E jewellery is also known under the name Juliana. However as the Juliana name was only used between 1964 to 1966, the family prefer the name D & E to be used.

Out of my 3 new books, this by far is my favorite (and my mothers) It has a history of the company, how the book was compiled, great views from collectors on why they are attracted to the jewellery and then page after page of beautiful jewellery with lots of information.
Not only does it show you how to identify the jewelley but the range of stones and beads used and the many designs. D& E made matching necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Jewelled belts, brooches and cufflinks, hat pins and hair barretts, scarf clips and dress rings, shoe and dress clips and even dog collars!
I recommend this book highly to anyone interested in vintage jewellery and costume jewellery history..
The only down side is that is not available on Amazon UK but can be ordered from America.

The other books that I will be reviewing over the next few weeks are:

Butler & Wilson 40th Anniversary book and Cameos Old and New (4th Edition ) by Anna M Miller.

Unfortunately Jewels and Finery does not have any D & E for sale at the moment.
So here are a few sparkling pieces of vintage jewellery from other companies

January, Vintage Beads and jewellery findings

We have been a bit snow with adding more vintage jewellery, beads and buttons. The snow seems to have slowed everything down. Now its gone - at least for a short while. So this is our last photograph of the snow on our pond.
Snow in January 2010.
The fish did not seem to mind the weather, we kept the pond pump going and so it did not freeze over

Here is a selection of the vintage jewellery that I have found and have identified the age of each piece. When we finally managed to stop snow watching!

Victorian revival brooch in black from the 1970s

Vintage red bead bracelet 1930s

Stunning pink cameo brooch -modern from the 2000s

Just some of the vintage beads and findings that have passed through our hands.

Second hand bracelet findings for making a bracelet. Circ 2000s

Salmon pink vintage beads made of plastic.

One of our most unusual finds - a vintage brooch probably made from an old piece of uniform with a crown royal design and surrounded by cut steel. The pin has been stitched to the back. Old red velvet backing

Many more jewels to be added to this blog. So bookmark for our updates.

Snow Snow and More Snow

Well 2010 started off very cold with ice and snow and has continued.
We are now in the worst winter conditions since 1981. Now for the life of me I can not remember that winter. But then I was 21 and spent most nights going out - a little bit of snow never stopped me then!
Used to wear a long sued fur lined coat and a pair of sued fur lined boots that had a high heel - but I never slipped over. Jeans that you had to lie on the floor to do up with a coat hanger, all finished with a floaty cheesecloth top. Jewellery was loads of metal Indian bangles, several pairs of earrings, studs and a pair of dangling ones. A single necklace usually a charm on a leather band. Those were the days.........

This is the palm tree outside our kitchen and some of the garden.

Can you see the garden furniture - its buried somewhere!

We cleared the path to get to the bird table but it soon snowed over again

Our cats do not like this weather and here they are - the heating pipes run under this carpet bit.

Our dog however loves the snow and jumps around like a puppy.

After our Christmas break, we have just photographed over a hundred pieces of vintage jewellery, findings and beads. In the next few days we will be adding them to Jewels and Finery
